This is a premium location for rest, relaxation and play! Adjacent to the False Cape State Park, you can enjoy vacationing where the wild horses roam. This vacation retreat was constructed in a vintage maritime theme to transport you back to the golden days of THE BEACH HOUSE! Features include a retro-styled kitchen with all modern amenities including two full-size refrigerators, nautical lighting, antique furnishings and historical memorabilia. Antique architectural elements are used throughout the home, including hand-carved teak furniture pieces, as well as wooden floors, walls, and ceiling vaults! Each of the seven bedrooms features a unique nautical theme. Directly oceanfront, this home is perched atop the rolling dunes of Carova Beach and steps away from the secluded walk-in nature preserve at False Cape State Park. This is a vacation escape from the ordinary!

The kitchen was stocked far beyond what we have seen in OBX rentals over the last 20 years of coming to the 4x4 Beach. In the heat of the summer, the Dune Deck made for a perfect location in the shade to relax with a book, see and hear the ocean and enjoy the horses that came by several times during the week."
"Reviews of this home said well equipped kitchen. We doubted it and carried a ton of stuff from our kitchen. It was unnecessary. Just bring personal items and consumables. This isn’t a rental house, it’s a family home and is equipped for the task. It truly felt like someone’s home and not a generic built to rent home. Very nicely decorated with tidbits about the outer banks covering the home’s walls. We have already booked this home again and are planning to stay at least once a year."

Thank you for staying at Gull Cottage and giving us feedback. The 3rd floor post has been reinforced for stability and we have changed out both sink faucet sets in the Master Bathroom. We are progressing a number of other off-season maintenance items and upgrades to the house for the enjoyment of guests. We appreciate guests providing constructive feedback

We are glad you enjoyed Gull Cottage and are returning again. We appreciate your constructive feedback. In the off-season, we have replaced the stereo and tv in the main living room. The kitchen sink leak has been addressed and corrected. Unfortunately, parts for the washing machine were on back-order and it has now been repaired. We have also made a number of repairs and upgrades to hopefully provide a good experience for guests.
"I have stayed at many houses. This house is my repeat forever. Perfect from top to bottom. The heated pool in the shoulder seasons is the envy of your fellow house renters. Stylish and perfectly appointed. 7 bedrooms for two of us, but well worth it. A classic beach house!!"

"The Gull Cottage is a special place and in my opinion the most unique house on Carova Beach. None of us ever plan on being inside much while on the OBX, but lets face it, rainy (or cool) days do happen. The Gull Cottage is so thoughtfully decorated that you really don't mind spending time in the house. They have included a lot of history, amazing decor items, and architectural beauty which makes this house our "go-to" destination. The only negative about Gull Cottage is when it's time to leave, it hurts my heart every time."

"Gull Cottage was unbelievable. Everything was in the house that was needed was there. Outside furnishings pool and jacuzzi were clean and totally operational. All guest in the house were commenting all week about how this house had everything we needed. Totally awesome vacation with the visitation of wild horses. Totally impressed, best cottage I have ever stayed in."

"Gull Cottage was a dream! We had such a wonderful time. The house was clean and beautifully furnished. The kitchen was amazing! It had everything we needed. This is a lovely house that is obviously loved and cared for by its owners. It is delightful."
"This home is perfectly located. It's right at the end of the NC border (so it is quiet and has less traffic). The house has a wonderful pool, hot tub and well- stocked kitchen. The kitchen had all the items you would need (baking dishes galore, mixing bowls, crock pot, blender, baking sheets, hand mixer, several huge stock pots for seafood boils, 2 full sized refrigerators w/ freezers). We had a family of 6 adults and 6 kids and we brought a LOT of food. We had no issues with storing any food in the kitchen pantry and 2 refrigerator/freezers. Items we would like to see improved in the house are the quality of the mattresses in the bedrooms. The door knobs were odd and hard to open some doors (kids and parents alike got stuck in the main floor's bathroom). The TV was a little outdated and the surround sound system kept failing. This was extremely annoying when the kids were all watching a movie. When the sounds fails we had to restart the sound system. I really hope that gets updated this year. All in all you can't beat a huge house that's ocean front and has a pool and hot tub!"
