"The house itself is gorgeous with every master having an ocean front view. The house is well equipped with chairs, beach games and kitchen supplies (seafood boil pot, crockpot, etc). The annex is perfect for our older kids to have their own space to hangout. Location is great! Walking distance to several coffee options in the morning, the taco bar and pizza places for lunch."
"The layout was great. The large square table was great for meals and games. Since we cooked every in night, we liked the large stove and fridge. But the kitchen was a bit tight for more than 2 cooks. We reported the injury our mom sustained because of the 2 inch rise on the side deck. That should be addressed quickly. She was laid up for4 of the 7 days of the rental and still can’t walk on her ankle. Could have been prevented."

"Every room had an ocean view. It was beautiful to see the sun rise. In the evening, we could look to the Corolla Lighthouse and see the sun set. Family from Maine to California, 24 of us, were together. There was room for all. House is well equipped and the elevator a huge plus!"

"Loved the overall layout of the home; bedrooms are tucked away so you can’t hear the noise around you, beautiful views, ample seating within the family room as well as the dining room. Kitchen was well equipped including a crockpot and a large boil pot. An outdoor shed also housed an assortment of beach games, chairs and boogie boards."
"Twiddy was very easy to work with. Check in was super easy and earlier than expected. The house was better than we expected. We had 26 family members for an entire week, but never felt like we were in each others way. Having our own bathrooms made it so nice. This house was super sound proof - I never heard another toilet flush all week. The views were spectacular. We had perfect weather, never rained a drop and got hotter and hotter as the week progressed. But probably our favorite was the pool area and all the great toys, boogie boards, extra beach chairs (at least 12), pickleball paddles, football, bocce ball, etc. Also 4 really nice bikes which was such a bonus as we wanted to bring our bikes but didn't want to haul them that far. Besides everything advertised there was so much more provided. The entire family said we would definitely rent again. A few items to be aware: 1) House is right beside the public beach entrance, so a few more people than we would have hoped 2) The cabana service was nice, but some days came late and was not able to provide a good spot for us. Also, he sets the chairs under the umbrellas instead of spreading them out so other families were very close. I do wish he would have set them up and spread out so we had more room on the beach. 3) If someone is running on the Peleton treadmill, the entire house shakes. We cooked most meals at home, had plenty of space for cooking and refrigerating enough food/beer for the week. Nice cookware, tons of plates and all sorts of items in the kitchen. Extra refrigerators throughout the house were wonderful. We rented a keg but didn't pick up when we realized the kegerator is for a 1/4 keg, not big enough for a 1/2 keg."
Good Afternoon and thank you for the detailed review! We have been visiting Whalehead for 25 years and when we designed Spyglass we wanted to make sure that we provided the things that we valued most. Over the years we've gone to the beach with big family or friend groups. Dinner is a special time for everyone to come together and for this reason we commissioned a custom black walnut table where the entire group could see and talk to each other (vs. kids or sub groups being stuck at the end of a long table). The dining area with the large northern windows is also one of the few spots in the OBX where everyone from dinner has a clear view of the Lighthouse. We love how it turned out, especially the 4' diameter lazy Susan. That said, we 100% agree that we need some foldable tables. Two have been ordered! The treadmill is indeed an issue when there is someone running fast. By code the home is built on pilings and even though they go extra deep, the treadmill should have been located on the concrete slap on the 1st floor. We are going to find a better spot for the treadmill and install an elliptical in it's place (we do not get any vibration from the peloton bicycle). We appreciate you pointing out the quietness of the rooms. Between each interior wall is a product called "rock wool". While expensive, the idea was that this combined with the special audio system would provide a magical escape: Concert hall quality music while watching a storm and lighting over the ocean (the off season can be magical)! The Kegerator supports a 1/2 Keg (what most people think of as a full keg). Not sure what the issue may have been but we will follow up with the vendor. Glad you liked the "beach closet". Direct beach access and PLENTY of room for everyone . We had 18 adult guests and everyone is looking forward to returning to Spyglass! To top it all off, Twiddy’s service was exceptional!! "Just returned from Spyglass and LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this home! From the moment we walked in it was WOW! Everything upscale, yet the décor was so cozy! Each bedroom was a beautiful suite with spectacular bathrooms! Amazing kitchen with all upscale appliances! Pool was fantastic. Owner's put much attention to detail in every room making sure everyone's needs were tended to - from the beach to the pool, the exercise room which was used daily to just lounging on their upscale furniture. The outdoor games and ping pong brought the family together every night for friendly competition! Highly recommend this home!!"

Thank you for the review; it makes us very happy to hear that you enjoyed the home. We have been coming to Whalehead for over 20 years. In our mind, Lighthouse Drive is truly the best that the OBX has to offer and the top cover lot is the best in Whalehead! We're all temporary custodians of our little slices of paradise so we are very appreciative of the time looking at the Ocean. We have a new pre-arrival manual that indicates the various beach games that we supply. Along these lines, we appreciate having things in place vs. packing the car! So in addition to the beach Cabana service (daily setup of 6 chairs and some umbrellas) we are now supplying 16 Tommy Bahama Chairs, 4 high-quality boogie boards, and extra umbrellas. Depending on the wind direction, there are either very few or many bugs. We power wash several times a season but will pay closer attention to this as we appreciate the time spent outside!
"I thought we'd stayed in great OBX houses before, including even more expensive rentals, but Spyglass was the best yet. The attention to architectural and construction detail and to providing "all the comforts" was just fine. The house was designed to give the guests the best imaginable appliances, cabinetry, furniture, and of course the views. . And since it was built only 2 years ago, everything was in perfect shape."

Getting everything in place through the pandemic was challenging...for this next season some of the final touches will be in place including the "Spyglass". It's a beautiful tripod mounted WWII 30:1 telescope for dolphin and boat watching!
