Do you get a beach driving permit with the house and if so is it good for vehicles and 4 wheelers?
Vicki, Currituck County now requires a beach parking permit. Passes are only needed to park on the 4x4 beaches. They are not needed to drive on the beach or to park at the home. For additional information, please visit http://co.currituck.nc.us/beach-parking/. Parking permits may be obtained in the mail or in person. To receive your permits in the mail, please visit http://co.currituck.nc.us/wp-content/uploads/beach-parking-permit-application.pdf to fill out the online application. To apply and receive a permit in person, please visit the Moyock Welcome Center (106 Caratoke Highway, Moyock, NC 27958) or Corolla Visitors Center (500 Hunt Club Drive, Corolla, NC 27927). 4-wheelers are not permitted in the 4x4 area.
A few questions...First, does the refrigerator have an ice machine? Is there a griddle in the kitchen? Also, how far away from the house can you reinflate your tires and what is the average cost to do so?
Thank you for your inquiry! The refrigerator does currently have an ice maker. However, ice makers are not a guaranteed amenity so this is subject to change at any time. A griddle is not provided. This home is located approximately 10.3 miles up the beach. From the paved road, our office is approximately 1 additional mile. The air tanks are available to Twiddy guests staying in the 4x4 area at no additional cost.
Is the well water okay to drink? Should we bring bottled water?
Thank you for your inquiry! The water is safe to drink and use for cooking, cleaning, washing clothes, brushing your teeth, however, most people prefer to drink bottled water. This home does provide a water treatment system for its well water. Homes with private wells can occasionally experience low pressure, salty, distasteful or discolored water. There may be an unpleasant sulfur odor. Private well water may discolor hair and/or clothing. Many guests choose to use bottled water for drinking purposes even though the water is tested regularly for contaminants. All homes on the 4x4 beaches have private wells and may have more prevalent water problems, even in homes with water filtration systems.

Can we go clamming on the beach? Also we allowed to have a small firepit? Something we can toast marshmellows on.

Beach Warning Flags
During dangerous surf conditions, red "No Swimming" flags fly at beach entrances. Whenever red flags are flying, swimming is prohibited. At such times, ocean conditions have been determined to be unsafe and swimmers are at serious risk of injury or death if they enter the water. For your safety, please heed all red flag warnings.
Rip currents are fast-moving currents of water that can quickly pull even the strongest swimmers away from the shore. Since the current flows under water, it’s important to know the signs of a rip current and avoid the water in that area.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), indicators of rip currents include:
Be sure to read lifeguard stand signs when arriving at the beach. If you see warning signs of rip currents or moderate or high hazard flags, stay out of the water and alert others to do the same. If caught in a rip current, you should stay calm to conserve energy. Don’t try to fight the current. Instead, swim with the current, and swim toward shore once you’re out of the current.
General Beach Safety
The fun begins where the road ends on this unique stretch of Outer Banks shoreline just south of the Virginia border. A four-wheel drive vehicle and an adventurous spirit are required to explore this beach community, where there are no paved roads, no hotels or restaurants, not even a convenience store! What you’ll find is an uncomplicated, fourteen-mile expanse of wide, sandy beaches, dense maritime forests and marshy soundside coves.
Home to the Corolla wild horses, the possibility of catching a glimpse of these extraordinary creatures is practically commonplace. Keep in mind, they are wild - do not approach them. County ordinance states that you may not come within 50 feet of the horses at any time. Feeding, riding or petting a wild horse is prohibited. A wild horse sighting is always an exciting event, but please remember to use caution and keep your distance.
There are no fixed lifeguard stands on the 4x4 beaches. Three roving lifeguards patrol from the end of the road to the Virginia state line from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Corolla’s pristine beaches are wide with soft sand. Upon crossing the beach access over the dune line to the beach, you will find that the beach is relatively flat, which is ideal terrain for afternoon strolls.
