It’s September 22nd, which means we are celebrating National Ice Cream Cone Day! Ice cream shops are sprinkled all along the OBX coast, and each shop brings something different to the table. Whether you want to indulge in homemade soft serve or you prefer your cone to be topped with hand-scooped ice cream, you are close to an ice cream shop anywhere you stay on the Outer Banks. Not sure where to start? Let’s check out some of the best ice cream shops on the Outer Banks, from Corolla to Nags Head!

The Chill Spot

The Chill Spot is the sweetest place to be in Corolla. With two locations, this delicious ice cream shop is located in Timbuck II and next to the Harris Teeter. With 10+ flavors of ice cream, cup cones, cake cones, and sugar cones, milkshakes and root beer floats, guests are able to find whatever is needed to hit the sweet spot! Some of the shops’ specialties include chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches, ice cream tacos, and ice cream nachos. The ice cream taco is just how it sounds; a taco-shaped waffle cone shell, full of ice cream and toppings! The ice cream nachos are loaded with homemade waffle chips and decked out with various toppings and ice cream. These unique creations make a stop at The Chill Spot a must for a sweet tooth looking for something new and different!

Big Bucks

Big Buck’s Homemade Ice Cream is a long-time favorite sweet shop in Corolla. Having won “Best of The Beach” three years running, it’s no surprise that their ice cream made fresh daily proves to be a crowd pleaser. Top your waffle cone with one of 51 homemade ice cream flavors. They also offer soft serve ice cream, homemade chocolate, gourmet sundaes, and milkshakes to allow any member of the family to satisfy their craving for a cold treat! Having a party? Big Buck’s Ice Cream Shop allows guests to customize their own ice cream cakes for any occasion! Not in the mood for ice cream, or need a little pick-me-up? They double as a smoothie and espresso bar. Big Buck’s Ice Cream shop can also be found in Kitty Hawk as well as two locations in Manteo.
