New to the Twiddy program for 2010!
The "Sea Star" sits serenely behind a wide dune overlooking the beach. Surrounded by mature trees, the location was chosen by the original owners because of the afforded privacy. Along the ocean, this haven is scenically landscaped with sea coast plants and seasonal flowers. Designed in the style of grand beach manors of a bygone era for gatherings of family and friends, but still cozy enough for a few. The home was designed by a notable North Carolina architect who integrated Northern Shingle style with elements of NC historic plantation homes by presenting a dramatic stair tower from the west side and double porches on the east, a detail brought to the Carolinas by planters from the West Indies. Built as a three-generation family beach home - for any time of the year - this former du Pont residence has several wings to accommodate family groups with central gathering. Adjoins the Audubon Sanctuary and not far from the many amenities of Sanderling and Duck.
The salon-style upper-level living area opens onto covered decks facing the ocean and westward to decks with views of the Sound. The formal living room is a large area full of light with ocean views to the east and sound views to the west. Picture windows are the centerpiece of each of the four sitting bays on either side of the doors. The high tray ceiling is of clear Carolina cedar and the windows, doors and baseboards are clear cypress with wide heart pine floors. Enjoy ocean views from the master suite or cooking in the large kitchen with several work stations for food preparation by either extended family or caterer. The kitchen also has an alcove bar area boasting an under-counter wine cooler, refrigerator and a wall of pull-out pantry cabinets. For eating the dining room highlight is the Venetian wax white and blue walls. A picture-window bay on the east brings in the light and ocean vista. On the west, an over-sized glass door opens to a balcony overlooking the garden and Currituck sound. After a good meal, head to the bedrooms that are spacious and comfortable with well-appointed bathrooms. Separate wings provide private, peaceful sleeping space for all. Come and experience living in the preserved natural habitat of this Atlantic Ocean to Currituck Sound community!
