As a member of the Outer Banks community since 1978, Twiddy & Company has seen first-hand the importance of giving back locally. Here are some of the organizations we support and ways that you can help too.

Outer Banks Hospital

OBX has a year-round population of 35,000 that grows to about 250,000 in the summer. As a result, Outer Banks Hospital was designed to accommodate our unique community. Even amidst the uncertainty of these past two years, Outer Banks Hospital has gone above and beyond to meet our health needs.

Outer Banks Bluegrass Island Festival

Come for the beaches, stay for the music. The Outer Banks has a bustling live music scene. This includes the Bluegrass Island Festival — a four-day music festival held at the Roanoke Island Festival Park, featuring a roster of acclaimed bands, delicious southern fried cooking, and incredible scenery. Music lovers from all over the world come to the Outer Banks for this exciting annual event.

Elizabethan Gardens

The Elizabethan Gardens encompasses ten acres of unique botanical and sculptural sights. The Gardens opened in 1960 with a goal to illustrate the kind of garden a colonist might have built had the colonization on Roanoke Island succeeded. Today, The Elizabethan Gardens serves as a permanent memorial to Sir Walter Raleigh’s lost colonists and acts as a gateway to nature and history through educational experiences.

Barktoberfest

Barktoberfest is an annual event through Trips with Pets. Benefitting rescues such as Love Mutts Rescue, the event features good beer, awesome auctions, and adorable adoptable pups.

Albemarle Area United Way

The Albemarle Area United Way strives to improve residents’ lives in the rural counties of northeastern North Carolina. Through a wide range of initiatives, including fundraising, certifying agencies, supporting programs, assessing needs, and serving as an information and referral service, they work hard to build stronger and healthier communities.

Outer Banks Seafood Festival

Seafood is one of the major draws of the Outer Banks, especially the highly anticipated Outer Banks Seafood Festival. This annual event provides a fun and educational experience by promoting, honoring, and celebrating our coastal seafood heritage and community.

How You Can Help:

Beach Food Pantry

It is estimated that nearly 5,680 people in Dare County are food insecure — 1,550 of whom are children. Beach Food Pantry provides free groceries to individuals and families in the Outer Banks community who have been affected by a temporary crisis or emergency, and commits to supporting the community should we ever be affected by a natural event.

Children & Youth Partnership for Dare County

Another of the organizations that we support is Children & Youth Partnership for Dare County, which provides programs and services to children and their families, ensuring that they have the resources necessary to thrive. 

How You Can Help:

First Flight Society

History is rich on the Outer Banks. The First Flight Society preserves the legacy of the Wright Brothers, educating the public about their historic First Flight, promoting aviation and its education, and supporting the National Park Service at the Wright Brothers National Memorial.
