October’s Friendly Pet of the Month

Berra the Baller

Have you ever stopped to think about the phrase “work like a dog”? The saying comes from a history of farm dogs tirelessly working from sun up to sun down, laboring with little to no reward. While perhaps most of our dogs these days are certified couch potatoes, our pups continue to give us so much without more than a hope for food, water, and maybe a scratch behind the ear.

That’s why we boldly believe all dogs deserve a vacation! After all, it’s time we give a big thank you to our four-legged friends. With so many pet-friendly rentals, dog-friendly beaches, and pup-tastic OBX activities, the Outer Banks makes it incredibly easy to express our gratitude to them! To show you, each month, we’re highlighting a pet that demonstrates exactly why OBX is the most paw-some place to bring your pup.

October’s Friendly Pet of the Month

This month, we’re highlighting Berra, a Lhasa-Apso/Poodle mix whose sassy attitude outweighs her 10-pound frame! Berra didn’t always have the big fun-loving personality that she’s known for now. Rescued by an amazing organization called Hampshire County Pet Adoption Program, she was about a year old when her paw-rents welcomed her into their lives. Since that time, Berra has gone from a timid pup to a dog overflowing with personality. Those that know Berra have lovingly nicknamed her “Jackpot” because her family won the lottery by adopting her. Now 3 years old, Berra is the “greatest gift” her parents could have received. Today, she is living her best life in Washington D.C. where she loves to play ball, eat ice cream, crunch on carrots, and strut her fashionista stuff.

Berra the Beach Babe

Berra recently packed her bags and headed to the beach for her first OBX vacation! Of course, she couldn’t go without her one-eared Yoda doll, a few balls to play fetch, and her cutest outfits (to match the cutest house). Once she and her family reached “Into The Mystic,” they soaked up everything Corolla has to offer.

“Our favorite memory was waking up to see the sunrise on the beach together as a family. Berra loved getting to the beach early in the morning for some fetch before the crowds got there.”

They spent their days on the beach with friends. Although Berra was a bit wary of the ocean, she had so much fun running and playing in the sand. They went for ice cream at Big Buck’s Homemade Ice Cream and to Whalehead’s Corolla Cork & Craft. And on their last day, they all visited the lighthouse in Corolla and had a nice lunch on the sound at NC Coast Bar and Grill in Duck. All in all, it sounds like Berra’s family had a great time and will be back soon!

We soaked up everything Corolla had to offer and loved how dog-friendly the Outer Banks are as a whole.”

Thank you to Berra’s mom, Joley, for sharing her story with us. We can’t wait to see y’all back on the beach next time! To see more of Berra’s spectacular style, follow her on Instagram at @youberrabelieveit.

Berra’s Pet-Friendly Rental

Make sure to check out the pet-friendly oceanfront home Berra and her family vacationed at in Corolla — Into The Mystic.

“We stayed in Corolla and loved the house we stayed in. It was absolutely stunning and made our trip more perfect than we could have imagined. A friend of ours rented it. It was so convenient that the house was nearby and we could easily go back and forth to the beach.”
