March’s Friendly Pet of the Month

Each year, we are privileged to meet many dogs that are on vacation with their families in pet-friendly homes. We love meeting new pups, hearing their stories, and seeing pictures of them enjoying themselves in our pet-friendly rentals. Around town, there’s plenty to do with your dog on the Outer Banks, from dog-friendly beaches to shopping at Outer Barks. Countless pets visit the Outer Banks with their owners each year, but March’s friendly pet of the month, Dolly, is a full-time resident of Corolla. Dolly belongs to the one and only Edward, Twiddy’s #1 beach reporter, and his parents, Buddy and Annie.

March’s Friendly Pet of the Month

Meet Dolly, March’s Pet of the Month! Dolly is a Yellow Labrador mix that is about 8 years old. Buddy and Annie adopted her from the Virginia Beach SPCA in May of 2017. Dolly spends a lot of time hanging out with Uncle Edward, who lives right next door. When she’s ready to go for a walk, she barks loudly and walks in circles with Edward’s shoes. Dolly loves long walks, going to the beach, swimming in the sound, and sitting in the driver’s seat of any vehicle. She also loves going to her grandmother’s house in Virginia Beach and getting lots of treats.

Beach Lover & 4×4 Copilot

Dolly loves walking anywhere, but she especially loves strolling the trails around False Cape State Park. She’s also a regular on The Currituck Banks Reserve trail in northern Corolla. When walking on the beach, Dolly prefers to stroll near the dune line rather than near the water. When the weather is warm, she’ll jump in any body of water she sees, and she absolutely loves swimming in the sound. She’s been known to interrupt fancy sunset pictures by launching into the water at the Whalehead Club during evening walks.

After playing on the beach, Dolly loves to sit in the truck and go for rides. If allowed, she will stay in a pickup truck for long periods of time, with the windows open, of course. She’s regularly seen riding around on the 4×4 beaches with Edward, Buddy, or Annie.

A few years ago, Dolly had an unfortunate altercation with a not-so-nice Outer Banks local: a venomous Cottonmouth snake. She survived, but had a severe snake bite and nearly lost her leg. She received anti-venom and had to stay in the animal hospital to recover for about a week. Her recovery is famous at her vet’s office, as everything turned out much better than originally expected.

Every Dog Must Have Its Day…..At The Beach

The Outer Banks is fortunate to have many places for dogs and their owners to hang out and play. Before you book a pet friendly OBX vacation home, keep in mind that some towns’ beaches have pet regulations on when dogs are allowed on the beach. Check out February’s Pet of the Month and stay tuned to our social channels for more photos and videos of dogs enjoying the Outer Banks.
