Five Ways to Connect to the Outer Banks From Home

Enjoy the OBX While Social Distancing

We are fortunate to have technology that allows us to connect with people and places from the comfort of our homes during these challenging times. Since we are unable to welcome you to the Outer Banks during this trying time, we’ve found a few ways to bring a little bit of the Outer Banks to you. We hope that at least one of these ways to connect to the OBX will bring some joy to your day or week!

1. Take a Look at Our Live Outer Banks Beach Cam

Many people believe that the ocean has a calming effect on your mind. Take a break from your day and get a live look at the Atlantic Ocean on Twiddy’s beach cam. Tune in early in the morning to watch the sunrise over the ocean (6:55 am on Friday, March 27th). Drop by mid-day to see how big the waves are. Keep it on for an extended period of time and have the kids count how many birds fly by. Bonus points if they can identify the type of bird! Our Birding Guide to the Outer Banks can help.

2. Take a Deep Breath with Village Yoga

The amazing yoga studio that we all love in Duck Village and Downtown Manteo has transformed into a virtual yoga studio with donation-based classes that you can join from home. Connect with your breath and add some mindfulness to your day with one of Village Yoga’s virtual classes. Current offerings include barre, restorative yoga, Vinyasa flow, gentle yoga, and more. Stay tuned to Village Yoga’s Facebook page for more information.

3. Get Your OBX Goodie Fix with an Outer Banks Box

The Outer Banks Box is a box of locally made goodies and a few surprises that is shipped directly to your home. Each OBX Box promises to serve up a quality mix of local eats, local art, unique momentos, and novelty items, all with an Outer Banks beach vibe. All items in the Outer Banks Box are curated right here on the Outer Banks. The OBX Box can be purchased as a single box or as an annual subscription, with four boxes per year. The Outer Banks Box makes a great gift for any lover of the OBX!

4. Have the Kids Create Unique Artwork in a Virtual Art Class

Little Wildflowers Art Studio is offering free virtual art classes via Facebook live. For more information and an introduction video to this Friday’s art class, see their Facebook page. Gather some basic art supplies and a few items from outside for Little Wildflowers Art Studio’s next live art class on Friday, March 27th. Tune in at 9:00 am to get your little ones’ creative juices flowing, or check the video out later on your own schedule. Parents, take this opportunity to have a cup of coffee and catch your breath!

5. End Your Day with Outer Banks Serenity

Get your daily dose of the OBX each evening as we share a moving reflection of the Outer Banks that we all know and love. From the Corolla Wild Horses on the 4×4 beach to the view from Currituck Beach Lighthouse to the waves rolling onto the beach in Kill Devil Hills, our goal is to provide you with a moment of zen. A new video will be shared on our Facebook and Instagram pages each evening at 6:00 pm.
