Father’s Day on the OBX

Fun Outer Banks Activities to Make Dad’s Special Day the Best Ever

Father’s Day on the OBX isn’t one size fits all. There are plenty of activities to do throughout the Outer Banks that appeal to a wide variety of interests. Celebrate the wonderful, supporting, and loving fathers in our lives with a fun day on the OBX.

1. Is Dad a fishing fanatic?

The Outer Banks is a fisherman’s paradise! Reel in the memories with Dad by going fishing on Father’s Day. Offshore and inshore fishing charters are available on the Outer Banks, depending on your preference and how much of the day Dad would like to fish. If you’d like a fishing experience closer to land, head to one of the famous OBX piers. Cast a line off of Avalon Pier, or visit another local favorite, the Outer Banks Fishing Pier, with the attached Fish Heads Bar and Grill. If you prefer a land-moored experience, head to the beach to fish from the shore.

2. Harp on history at Wright Brothers Memorial

Visit the historical Wright Brothers Memorial and absorb the history of flight. Stop by the multiple attractions at the memorial by following this “Places to Go” guide. Located in the hustling and bustling community of Kill Devil Hills, stop by for a sweet treat at Kill Devil’s Frozen Custard & Beach Fries, or get in a game of putt-putt at Lost Treasure Golf.

3. Bond over a local brew

Sip and swirl some local beers with Dad at an Outer Banks Brewery. Try a tasty local brew at the Outer Banks Brewing Station or kick back and relax at Corolla Beer Garden. If Dad’s more interested in channeling his inner bartender, check out our OBX Cocktail Guide.

4. Take a hike in quaint Nags Head Woods

If Dad loves to spend time in nature, head to Nags Head Woods Preserve for a serene walk or bike ride. You can rent bikes from a local equipment rental company, like Ocean Atlantic Rentals. Check out some of our favorite local trails in our guide to OBX Hiking Trails and Scenic Bike Routes.

5. Sharpen your swing during a round of golf

Get your tee time scheduled and pencils sharpened for a golf day with Dad. The Outer Banks offers several golf course options for a versatile round of 18. Outer Banks native and Clemson Women’s Golf team member Katherine Schuster offers the inside scoop on OBX golf courses

6. Sway to local live music

End the night with live music at some local Outer Banks hot spots. Corolla Beer Garden, Tap Shack in Duck, Duck Town Park, and Outer Banks Brewing Station are some of our favorite places to enjoy live music. Or if you want to be the entertainment, head to Jolly Roger or Sundogs Raw Bar & Grill for Karaoke night!

These are just some of the ways you can celebrate Father’s Day on the OBX. Whether you show appreciation through a bonding beach day or a bustling bar crawl, the dad in your life will love their Father’s Day on the Outer Banks!
